When feeding in suddenly costs money
From 2027 in Switzerland, unless agreed otherwise with the grid operator, solar power is paid hour by hour at the spot market price. The minimum remuneration remains – but only as a top-up paid after each quarter on every kWh fed in. On sunny days the market price drops below zero around midday, and as soon as it falls below that top-up, you pay to feed in. homi keeps recalculating the threshold for your system – using the official federal reference market prices. That makes a big difference: in 2025, feeding in with the minimum remuneration would really have cost money in only 36 hours, not in the 303 hours with a negative market price. And a battery that simply charges as soon as the sun shines is long full by the time it would pay off most.
Example: a sunny Sunday
Example calculation with the homi schedule: solar system approx. 9 kWp, battery 5 kWh, remuneration = Swiss day-ahead market price.
Negative price alert by email
On days with negative market prices you get an email at 6:45 am: when it happens and what you can do. You then throttle your inverter yourself (or homi does it automatically) or run the washing machine & co. The emails are in German for now.
Fully automatic
- Feed-in stops by itself as soon as it costs money – already running: homi throttles Fronius inverters to self-consumption, taking the minimum remuneration and quarterly top-up into account
- Which remuneration model pays off? homi calculates fixed tariff, quarterly average and market price with your real data
- Safe: every command expires after 5 minutes – if homi fails, the system simply keeps producing
- Battery charges in the cheapest hours – not simply at sunrise (coming soon)
- Water heater, heat pump or EV step in at negative prices (coming soon)
- Test mode first – with proof of what it brings

Ready for production
homi is not a concept study: the platform runs in production, is secured and simply grows with every new customer.
Every homi runs under its own address, set up in seconds, with a valid certificate.
Code by email or a passkey with Face ID and fingerprint. Sessions stay valid for 180 days.
Live values every 5 seconds, a 10-minute archive over five years, weather and market data automatically.
End-to-end encrypted push notifications, emails from our own domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
Automatic updates with checks and rollback, fault alerts, daily encrypted backups.
Hosted in Switzerland, vendor-independent, open standards, integration with Home Assistant.
Show the technical architecture
- Software: lean Python services in containers, a reverse proxy with automatic certificates, a web app (PWA) without third-party libraries.
- Data: your measurements stay with you or on servers in Switzerland; the only external sources are weather (Open-Meteo) and market prices (Energy-Charts).
- Security: TLS everywhere, passkeys (WebAuthn), end-to-end encrypted push notifications, rate limiting, encrypted backups.
- Operations: automatic updates with checks and rollback, fault alerts, dynamic DNS updates; a standby server for automatic failover is being set up.
- Development: AI-assisted – new device integrations and analyses in days rather than months, every control starts in test mode.
The electricity market is going dynamic. homi is ready.
Switzerland's new electricity act brings local electricity communities, and utilities are moving to feed-in tariffs based on market prices. Anyone with a solar system needs visibility and control for that. That is exactly where homi comes in.

Good to know
Do I need a solar system?
No. Even without solar, homi shows what electricity costs you and when, and finds power guzzlers. It gets really exciting with a solar system, battery, heat pump or EV.
Which devices are supported?
Live today: Fronius inverters with a smart meter. I connect other inverters, batteries, wallboxes and heat pumps via open standards – list your devices in the form and I'll check them.
How do I reach my homi?
Under your own address like sonnenhof.homi.solar, in the browser or as an app on your phone. Sign in with a code by email or with Face ID / fingerprint. See an example
Where is my data stored?
At your home or on servers in Switzerland – not with an international cloud provider. No tracking, no sharing with third parties.
Does homi control my devices?
Yes, step by step. The feed-in stop as soon as feeding in costs money (from 2027 calculated with the minimum remuneration and quarterly top-up) already runs with Fronius inverters (via Modbus, locally in the house), plus an on/off button in the app and in Home Assistant. homi switches on appliances on smart plugs (e.g. myStrom) as soon as there is solar power to spare – such as the charging station for phone and tablet. Battery, wallbox and heat pump come next. Every control starts in test mode, you decide when to activate it – and every command expires by itself should homi ever fail.
Who is behind it?
Patrick Biber from Uerikon on Lake Zurich – solar consultant and IT professional. homi grew out of his own home. More at biber.solar.
